Disassembly
0001

Jack up the vehicle - make sure it is safe to work on - use jack stands or lift.

0002

Remove the front wheel and then caliper.

 0003

Remove the caliper and hang it up - don't let it dangle by the hose.

 0004

 Remove the dust cap.

0005

Remove the cotter pin and then the nut (it is only hand tight). * Outer bearing may fall out after nut removal *

 0007

Dust cap, cotter pin, flat washer and outer bearing have been removed - rotor is ready for removal.

0006

Removed components - dust cap, cotter pin, nut, flat keyed washer & outer bearing.

0008

 Remove the rotor.

 0010

At this point the seal and inner bearing need to be removed.  Use a long brass punch and hammer.  Place a rag underneath the rotor.

 0011

Seat the brass punch on bearing and then carefully tap.  The seal and inner bearing should drop out.

0012

Inner bearing and seal.

 Reassembly

0019

Install inner bearing (big one) with the taper down.

0020

Install the seal (gently).  I use a plastic hammer to tap it in.

0009

Lightly coat the spindle with grease.

0007

Install rotor, install small bearing (outer)

0021

Smaller outer bearing and keyed flat washer.

0022

Installation of keyed washer with squared edge inside, key liningup with slot in spindle..

0023

How things fit together. Parts names from top left to bottom right: Seal, bearing, race, rotor, race, outer bearing, flat washer, nut, cotter pin, dust cap.

0024

Install nut hand tight until it seats while spinning the rotor. At this point you can install the caliper and then wheel for a better feel of the bearing adjustment.

0025

Tighten the nut 16nm or 12 ft/lbs while turning the wheel forward. This will properly seat the bearing.   Back it off to the next hole to align the cotter pin and install the pin.

0002

Install the dust cap (sometimes the cotter pin will rub on the inside of the dust cap). Check the wheel for in and out movement at the top and bottom.
