August 2026 Newsletter

President’s Message:

Well, this has certainly been a strange summer.  We on the Board truly hope that none of our Membership has been affected by the severe flooding that occurred in July.  The people affected are going through a terrible experience and our best wishes go out to them.

It is with regret that I have to announce that, for personal reasons, Tony Duplante has resigned his position as Secretary with the Capital Corvette Club.  Tony’s resignation was effective immediately.  Given the importance of this position to the Club, the Board of Directors reached out to John Scapillati for suggestions on who might be interested in filling this position.  John volunteered himself and the Board, in accordance with the Bylaws of the Capital Corvette Club Inc., subsequently appointed John Scapillati on August 4, 2026 to the Position of Secretary.  Welcome back John!

As noted last month, our Dealer Sponsor events are very important and fun evenings for our Sponsors who donate generously to this Club.  We had 2 very successful Dealer Events in July; Myers Baseline, and our very first event at Bean Chevrolet in Carleton Place.  Both Dealers were very impressed with the turn out.  Our Toni Manconi won a free oil change at Myers!  Surgenor’s Corvette Cruise Night is coming up on Wednesday, August 19^th.  The Punchbowl invitation on this one has already been issued.  Let’s show our support once again for another great sponsor!

One final Sponsor related item.  Myers Baseline has instituted a referral bonus coupon that will get you $500 for referring someone for a successful sale of a new, in stock Corvette.  Please note that the Coupon at the end of the Newsletter is available only at the 1200 Baseline Road location of Myers.

There are many more events ahead for this year!  Make sure that you read your Punch Bowl invitations so that you do not miss these upcoming events.  On that front, we have two important suggestions for you with respect to the Punch Bowl Invitations:

• We highly recommend that you download the Punchbowl App – The App is an easy way for you to keep track of all our invitations and your responses in one place.  They are not scattered over a large number of emails.  You can review your responses and update your RSVP’s easily.  Get the App!  It works!
• Do Not “Unsubscribe” from Punchbowl – Under Privacy Laws, if you unsubscribe from Punchbowl invitations, Punchbowl will remove your email address from their system forever.  You will never again be able to receive a Punchbowl invitation at that email address.  This is a problem if you do want to receive invitations from us in the future.  For example, our Year End Christmas Party invitation will not be delivered to you if you unsubscribe. 

If you just want to stop invitations for a specific period of time, please contact the V.P. Social (socialdirector@capitalcorvetteclub.ca) and let us know what you would like with respect to your invitations.  We can remove your name from the mailing list without causing it to be deleted forever.

Social Committee – Upcoming Events:

The Social Events Calendar for 2026 is still actively being planned.  We already have events in the planning stages but we are always open for new ideas and suggestions.  If you have been thinking of leading a cruise or suggesting an event but have not done so yet, this is an excellent opportunity to volunteer.  If you are interested, please send an email to:

• Meat & Grease Car Show sponsored by Derand Motorsport and on behalf of the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation – Original date of June 14th Postponed because of weather to August 23rd. – Please update your Punch Bowl response;
• Van Schyndel Tour and Picnic – August 29th – Punchbowl has been sent;
• Niagara on the Lake Wineries Tour – September 16 to 18 – Punch Bowl has been  sent

Please respond Yes or No to Punchbowl invites so that organizers have an accurate number of attendees.  If something changes and you are not able to attend after you have already responded “Yes”, please go back and change your response to “No”.  This is especially important for events where there is a cost.  If you do not cancel before the deadline, we will not be able to issue a refund.

Membership:

Registration is always open and instructions on how to register are included on our Website. 

Registration for 2026 currently stands at 80 Members.  We are always looking for new Members.  If you know someone who might be interested please invite them to join.

Information Technology:

Ongoing work continues to make improvements to the Web Site and our Registration System.

You now have the opportunity to link your personal calendar to the club calendar of events. On our website, choose the menu option “Events”, then scroll to the bottom of the calendar and either add Google Calendar or use the link to subscribe to our calendar.

While you are on the “Events” page, if you have not already downloaded the Punchbowl application for either your Apple or Android device, the links are now there.

Don’t forget to sign up for our WhatsApp communication link.  This is a great place to reach out to fellow members for planning car shows and the like.  We have recently added a sub link to the general Club link that is to be used exclusively for announcing and arranging attendance at Car shows and Cruise Nights that are not part of our Punch Bowl invitations.

CCC Clothing & Other Branding Items:

Don’t forget our new Club pins.  Pins are a great way to identify with the Capital Corvette Club.  Put one in your hat or other piece of clothing and buy another one to trade with people you meet along the road!  All Registered Members will get a pin as part of their Membership.  Additional Pins will be on sale for $5 each.
